It is a great idea!” “Those kids that have joined this program improved, behaviors have changed.” “I think it’s a great asset for our school, our kids, and community.” (Dr. Jones actively participated in sessions, along side the children, for several months!)

DR. DION JONES, PRINCIPAL

My son was on his way to failing second grade and his grandparents and I were at our wits-end having tried everything to get him to control his behavior and emotions. He was refusing to do his school work, home work, on his way to being kicked off the bus permanently.” We enrolled him in the Academic Success Program. In no time flat he had excelled extremely in reading and all his other academic studies he had made a complete turn around.” This program really works. It’s not just a martial arts program.

SANDI BRUMBALOW, PARENT

This program is not about the karate, although the physical activity is helpful in the process. The program is about helping each child reach their potential and see that they can do well and achieve. My son learned to respect adults, listen to directions and focus his attention, and the discipline of sticking with something for an extended period of time.” “During his participation in the program his grades came up at least one letter grade in every subject.” “We can not say enough about what this program has done for our family.

As assistant principal at Sugar Hill Elementary, I have seen the significant impact upon student achievement through the ASP (Academic Success Program). I have been the assistant principal at Sugar Hill for six years, therefore I have seen our current fifth graders since they were in kindergarten. The fifth graders involved in ASP display an enthusiasm that is truly heart warming. I have seen an increase in their self-esteem and abilities to engage in student learning. The excitement in their eyes on their way to ASP each week is evidence that the program has made a difference in their academic and emotional development. I also have the opportunity to see primary students succeed in the program at a young age, therefore creating positive experiences in the early elementary years. The collaborative efforts of parents, students, and teachers in the Academic Success Program supports our ultimate goal of increased student achievement. It is an honor to work in a school that embraces success.

DR. DONNA PATRICK, ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL

We appreciate having the Academic Success Program available to the students at Harbins Elementary. While learning martial art skills, our students have learned skills that support their academic success in the classroom. They have learned about responsibility, following directions, goal setting and self-discipline. These are all essential skills for high achievement in the classroom. The students who have participated in the program have demonstrated success in carrying the skills learned in the Academic Success Program to their work habits in the classroom. We appreciate the opportunities our students have had to build confidence in their abilities to accomplish their goals, and contribute in positive ways through their time in the Academic Success Program.

DR. CINDY TRUETT, PRINCIPAL

I am a second grade teacher at Sugar Hill Elementary. I was fortunate to have students partake in the Academic Success program this year. The students who participated in this program showed significant growth in responsibility and motivation. This growth was not only seen within the classroom but also at home. I was very pleased with my students’ academic growth both during and after participating in this program. Instructors provided strategies to help students, parents, and teachers to ensure that every student showed vast improvement in respect and academic performance. As a teacher and parent I would highly recommend the Academic Success program.

VANESSA GORE, SECOND GRADE TEACHER

Our son has greatly benefited from the Academic Success Program. He was not there for behavioral concerns or issues. In fact, he has always been a great and positive role model student to his peers. He needed to gain self-confidence, as well as, motivation to help him improve on his learning and working skills in the classroom. My husband and I noticed a great improvement in our son’s ability with completing his homework in a more timely manner with less help from either of us. Grades improved at school and his teachers also noticed a dramatic overall improvement with him in the classroom.

Last year, due to my hectic work schedule I enrolled my daughter, Taylor, in your Academic Success karate program as a way to get her involved in some activity after school. I had no idea at the time how valuable the program would be to Taylor.” Thank you for this leadership opportunity you offer our children. It really does make a difference.

STEPHANIE SMITH, PARENT & FIFTH GRADE TEACHER

The Academic Success program helped our son tremendously. He went from failing, not completing his work, outbursts in class, not staying on-task, a constant distraction in his class to completing all his work, staying on-task, obeying his teacher, and passing all classes.

DAVE & BRENDA ROBERTS, PARENTS
